Amanda has shared a lovely example of adapting a design from Anne of Green Gables. She says:

I think it was the first complete outfit I drafted, about two years ago. I got the inspiration from Anne's 'apologizing' skirt and vest, when she talks to Miss Barry. Afterwards I realized that she was probably wearing a flowered blouse with a V-neck and collar that looked like the vest lapels, but I guess I got a similar look. I was looking at an old family photo, and the blouse of one of my great-great aunts caught my eye. As I had not decided what style of blouse I should make for my outfit, I decided to try that one, with the tucks down the side, a lace insert in the collar and "leg-o-mutton" sleeves. I re-did the sleeves and took a bit of the 'pouf' out. The blouse is unbleached cotton and the skirt and vest are a small homespun plaid. The skirt is straight in front and gathered in back. It closes with hooks and eyes. If I were to redo it, I would definitely make the skirt MUCH wider! Live and learn, I guess. The vest has princess seams front and back, and is fully lined with the cotton floral you can see on the lapel. I have worn it to church several times, but I think people are used to my "weird" clothing.

Don't you just love her outfit? Great job, Amanda!

Remember when creating film inspired fashions to have fun! The key is to take them and re-interpret them to be worn for whatever occasion you want. Hope you've been as inspired as I have!!
