Dinner Dress

The combination of the striped skirt and solid bodice makes this gown unusual. The bodice is mostly solid white, with a V-shaped print inset in the center front, flanked on either side by 3 rows of tucks. The neckline is also V-shaped. Interestingly, the bodice does not appear to be darted, which raises a question: was it cut on the bias? However, for the sake of simplicity, it would have been as well to cut the bodice on the straight of grain and dart it. Another possibility: the tucks might cover the darts!
Short, puffed sleeves in the bodice fabric are all but hidden beneath the collar, which suggests the look of the period with its wide draping style. The main portion of the collar is of the same print fabric used in the center V design on the bodice. The outer edge is trimmed with aarrow a narrow solid strip.

The belt, of a small print, fastens with an oval buckle. The blue and white striped skirt ends in a slight ruffle at the hem. It appears that a narrow printed band separates the skirt from the ruffle.
