Jenny-Rose White ~ highly recommended
Techniques Used:
set in gathered sleeves
inserting a placket
creating buttonholes
Comments:
This dress features a slightly gathered bodice and flat skirt front with a fuller skirt back. An easy, simple and extremely versatile pattern with lovely results! Designed for modern wear, the dress is comfortable while still keeping the Regency's pretty lines.
Typical of S&S's patterns, it is nicely printed on heavy paper with good, clear instructions. S&S also offers helpful
on-line instructions and classes for this dress in the Costume Classroom.
The pattern includes instructions for short, long and detachable long sleeves. In addition S&S offers on-line instructions on how to modify the dress with a
train, overskirt, split sleeves, maternity skirt, button front bodice, drop-front bodice and more! The possibilities are endless!
There are a few mistakes in this pattern, the biggest was the shrinking of a skirt piece by the printer. I neglected to check S&S's
"opps!" page and sure enough, when I went to hem my dress it was too short. Luckily I had fully lined the skirt with my own measurements so that was the correct length. I hemmed both skirts and added ribbon to the longer lining to make it look like it was supposed to be that way.
I used the long sleeves on my gown, which I really like. Further modifications were to run my gathering stitches across the entire bottom of the bodice, to add additional fullness in the back, which I then pleated and to add a little belt.
